Pin Parvati Pass trek is one of the most transverse treks. The trail includes lush green wide-open meadows, dense forests, finite numbers of waterfalls, and a very high altitude lake and Parvati glacier. Starting from Kullu and reaching to Spiti this trek also include a culture spin which makes it more desirable. Pin Parvati Pass is named after a pass that links the Parvati valley of Kullu which Pin valley in Spiti.

Day 1 Manali to Barsheni to Kalga

Meals: No Breakfast Lunch Dinner

In the morning we leave Manali to Barsheni by drive. Manali to Barsheni is 90 km and it will take us up to 3 hours to get there by cab. Barsheni is surrounded by dense pine forests and pastureland. We make stop at Manikaran for lunch. From Barsheni we further trek to Kalga which will take up to 1 and a half hours. We spend our night in Guesthouse at Kalga.

Day 2 Kalga to Khirganga

Today after breakfast, the trail continues from Kalga and it will take us around 6-7 hours to reach today’s campsite (Khirganga). The trail is going to be long hours of walking. In the beginning, we keep moving ahead and cross a wooden bridge from here you can see beautiful river Parvati. From here we go through a dense forest and in involve a long ascent for almost half an hour. Walking almost for 30 min we come across a point that makes a V turn. From 15 min walking distance, we reach a green meadow where Kheerganga is located. From here our second phase of the trial begins. This is also going to be a long trail that passes through a Pine forest and you will pass by a waterfall. Here you also come across a Maggie point where you can have some refreshments. The entire trail is ascent but not steeped but more like gradual ascent. And this is going to be our campsite for the night stay.

Day 3 Kheerganga to Tunda Bhuj

Today in the morning after a healthy meal, we start our trek to Tunda Bhuj which will take us around 7-8 hours. The trail will be a continuous climb and you can see Parvati River coming down from mountains on your left side. The trail will pass through a vast meadow. The path from Kheerganga is the first stream you cross. Start with a constant ascent for about 30 minutes after a while you will see a temporary wooden bridge over the edge of mountains. After half an hour on the trail, you come out of the forest area and found yourself in the meadows again with a lush green view around you. Now, the trail goes a high peak of hill. Once we reach the top, the twirl will be within the hill, and you can view the gigantic area of Parvati Valley in front of you. This will be the last overpass that you have to cross and you will reach Tunda Bhuj. You can see the mountains from here covered in milky snow. The campsite will be here for an overnight stay.

Day 4 Tunda Bhuj to Thakur Kaun

Today after breakfast, we start our trail to Thakur Kaun. Today’s trail is a short trek that only takes around 3-4 hours to reach Thakur Kaun. The trail will be rocky and tricky but mostly flat. As we walking we will cross through a pasture with the richness of lovely flowers and greenness. Thakur Kaun is pastureland beside the river Parvati. Our camps will be here.

Day 5 Thakur Kaun to Odi Thatch

Today’s trail is easiest of the entire trails in the trek. After breakfast, we start our journey to our next destination Odi Thatch. Today’s trail is easy but thrilling and exciting because during the trail we will cross two natural bridges which according to Hindu Mythology are built by Pandavas. During this trek, we will cross a terrine and then we cross a few streams. After walking on the trail for almost one and a half hours, the first bridge appears Pandu Pul-1 and after walking for 20 minutes the second bridge appears Pandu Pul-2 after crossing this bridge we will on another side of Parvati River. From here trail mostly on flat ground and will not take a toll on the body. There are going to be plenty of water points during the trail where you can fill up your bottles. After 4-5 hours of trek, we finally reach Odi Thatch. Odi Thatch is a vast lush green meadow in the valley. Our camps will be for the night. Note Odi Thatch is the windiest campsite.

Day 6 Odi Thatch to Mantalai Lake

After breakfast, we start our trail. Today’s trail is going to be a long trail. We have to reach Mantalai Lake which is 12 km away from Odi Thatch and it will take around 7-8 hours. Mantalai Lake is said to be the origin of River Parvati. Aside from the fact that trail is going to be a long, the trail would be almost on flat land with gradual up, except the last 300 mt. the beginning of trail would be a bit muddy and slippery, you will be walking along the side of River Parvati. From here you can see River Parvati in its infancy; it is hard to believe that this is the same River that can give shivers down the spine with its gigantic view. There will be no vegetation as we will be walking on glacial moraine and debris. Then the steep climb will starts after crossing the last steep 300 mt we reach Mantalai Lake. Here is a small temple situated where you can visit. The campsite will on shores of Mantalai Lake.

Day 7 Rest Day at Mantalai Lake

After walking for 6 days, a rest day is well deserved by everyone. Today you can take rest, take pictures of the lake are its surroundings, explore the area and appreciate the majestic beautiful view of nature.

Day 8 Mantalai Lake to Base camp 1 Pin Parvati Pass

Today after early morning breakfast we leave the Mantalai Lake for our next destination at Base camp 1 in Pin Parvati Pass. When we are leaving Mantalai Lake the sun might be raised in the sky. Today’s trail is going to be challenging, the beginning of the trail is muddy and steep and the rocks are loosely attached so it is safe that you make the distance from trekker ahead of you. Once this section of the trail is passed. There is a pretty good ascent. After crossing this section the trail is easy with gradual ascent after a while you encounter the moraine. The moraine is just 1 km long and at the end of it is our campsite. This moraine section maybe just 1 km long but it is not easy to cross the moraine is going to be steep and can take a while to cross. After we cross the moraine we reach our campsite. The campsite is at the edge of Parvati glacier. The view from here is majestic a moment to behold the view.

Day 9 Base camp 1 (over the pass) to Base camp 2

We start early morning after breakfast, across the huge open ice field leading to the pass in the east, which can be reached in 4 hours. We need to negotiate the crevasses and hard icy slopes carefully. While walking on the permafrost region we see the glacial lake formation and snowcapped peaks. To reach the Pin Parvati Pass we climb a steep rocky ridge. The pass offers a wide panorama of peaks and the valleys of Spiti. We descend from the pass, first on snow and ice and then on steep loose scree. Finally, we cross an ice-cold wide open stream and reach the camp over the pass on a patch of grass on the left bank of the Pin River. Distance around 8 km in total which may take 8 hours.

Day 10 Base Camp 2 to Kaza

After breakfast, we start our trail. From today onwards the valley is typically Spitian, barren, but with patches of grass and scree. Start early in the morning and we follow the left bank of Pin River to descend gradually. We reach Chinpatta Maidan around a distance of 16km. One can see the route leading towards the Bhaba Pass for Kinnaur on the other side of the river. From here scenically proliferation of the colored mountains mesmerizes you as the Pin valley broadens up. The trail gently descends along the left bank of the river and reaches Mud, the first village on the Pin valley is another 12Km. Total trekking will take around 10 hours. Take a car for Kaza which is 45 Km and will take around 2 hours. Night stay in hotel/rest house.

Day 11 Kaza to Manali

Today we take the early morning bus from Kaza at 6 a.m. in the morning which reaches Manali via Lohsar, Kunzum La, Chhatru, Grampho, and Rohtang pass. Distance is around 200 Km and may take 10 hours.
